Review of the Genus 72mm 8 Stop Variable ND Filter Part 1
by Corey Steib on February 28th, 2013
A few weeks ago I received my brand new 72mm 8 Stop Variable ND Filter from Genus Products along with some step down rings from Fotodiox for my other Zeiss ZF Glass.
I took it outside a beautiful bright sunny day here in Florida filed with nice white clouds and from some of the testing I was able to do it was like night and day :).
To have that nice 8 stop range to play with was mmmm good as it allowed me to open up my lens as wide as the f stop will let me which is great considering when I was in AC we were using 4x4 and 6x6 filters and always had to change them out from a 3 to a 6 depending on the sun but for me to have it in all one nice piece of glass just works wonders because sometimes I am a one man band at times so carrying a mattbox with support rods etc.. is not in option.
A lot of people have been asking me how I like this ND filter and let me start by saying that I love this ND filter a lot and it is not a cheap one by a long shot. As the old saying goes "you get what you pay for" well I paid a nice penny for this glass because it will be going in front of my oh so lovely Zeiss glass, so the quality has to be there on both ends of the glass to get the best results.
Here in a couple of weeks I should have some test footage for you all to see in which I will post in a part 2 of this blog so stay tuned.
